Last week, we heard from Rev. Les that Hope Comes in the midst of uncertainty. The passages of Luke 21 and Isaiah 65 were both apocalyptic in genre by speaking of earthquakes, famine, plagues, wars and rumors of wars. We often think of apocalyptic literature as speaking to far-off times well into the future. But such events are present with us in every age–war between Russia and Ukraine, hundred-year floods in India and Bangladesh, increasing food scarcity and insecurity. As we continue to hold on to our current hope, today we seek to build a “vision for the appointed time.”
