I’m a sports fan. I’m not sure this is a new thing to the people of Pacific Beach UMC, though I confess it is sometimes a conversation subject at home as my beautiful spouse notes “I didn’t marry a sports guy!” while I’m watching the Nebraska game.
And with any sports game – and surely this translates to any number of things – the first thing I want my favorite teams to do is: show up!
People talk about it that way. Oh, my team didn’t even show up today! or My team is IN THE HOUSE!
Another analogy might be seen in how people talk about relationships. I just don’t feel like you’re WITH me today. or I love when we’re on the same page!
The believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to the community, to their shared meals, and to their prayers. A sense of awe came over everyone. God performed many wonders and signs through the apostles. All the believers were united and shared everything. They would sell pieces of property and possessions and distribute the proceeds to everyone who needed them. Every day, they met together in the temple and ate in their homes. They shared food with gladness and simplicity. They praised God and demonstrated God’s goodness to everyone. The Lord added daily to the community those who were being saved.
Acts 2:42-47
