On Sunday, April 30th, Pacific Beach UMC embarks on a five-week sermon series based on the book Half Truths by United Methodist Pastor Adam Hamilton. The series (and the book) remind us of some of the common phrases we say to one another that bear deeper examination.
They are simple phrases. They sound Christian – something you might even find in the Bible:
- Everything happens for a reason
- God helps those who help themselves
- God won’t give you more than you can handle
- God said it, I believe it, that settles it
- Love the sinner, hate the sin
We’ve all heard these words. Maybe we’ve said them. They capture some element of truth – yet they also miss the point in very important ways. Join us as we breakdown these “Half Truths.”
In addition to this, small groups will gather to go deeper into these phrases and these sermons so we can explore even more deeply together. Groups will use our weekly sermon previews as general guides through these important conversations. Please contact the church office for group schedules.
If you would like to read more – either in conjunction with the sermon or separately – you can find the book by clicking here.
