DIRECTOR OF TECHNICAL ARTS

A non-exempt, hourly position (approximately 10 hours per week)

Description

The Director of Technical Arts is the chief visionary, creator, and leader of the multimedia used across the church, working collaboratively with the pastor, staff and congregation.

Essential Functions

Functions may include but are not limited to the following:
(Essential Functions are expected to require around 10 hours a week)

  1. Operate and maintain all technical areas of worship production, including sound, lighting, and live stream video systems, as well as cursory support of media projection.
  2. Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers to run these systems on alternating Sundays.
  3. Create slide deck for weekly Sunday worship service.
  4. Update the Livestream portion of the PB UMC website.
  5. Work with church staff to ensure information is updated at all times.
  6. Ensure all community-facing materials reflect the values of PB UMC, including the use of gender-inclusive and LGBTQ+ affirming language.
  7. Job role extends to seasonal and other special services as needed.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

Optional/Preferred Functions

  1. Weekly production of video announcements and insertion into the weekly slide deck.
  2. Creatively strategize on social media platforms to promote PB UMC and its various ministry opportunities.
  3. Update content of the PB UMC website.

Knowledge of:

  • Sound and visual devices used for services.
  • Social media platforms.
  • WordPress editing.
  • Basic cyber security best practices.
  • Pertinent PB UMC policies, and procedures.
  • Fluent in English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Technology and software such as ProPresenter, OBS, Elgato Stream Deck, etc.

Ability to:

  • Understand the organization and operation of PB UMC as necessary to assume assigned responsibilities.
  • Work independently and with others.
  • Preserve the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Be highly detailed and organized; able to multi-task as needed.

Experience:

  • Recent/active participation in the life of a church.
  • Prior relevant technical experience.
  • Prior social media experience. Specific experience with Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Google Analytics, and particularly WordPress.

Education and Training:

Equivalent to the completion of high school; preferably supplemented by course work in marketing, technical, or a related field.

Supervision and Work Schedule

  • Supervised by the pastor.
  • Working hours will be split between Sundays for the in-person worship service and remote for all other responsibilities.

Compensation

$30-$35 an hour, commensurate with experience
