Sermon Notes (Page 11)

Nearly every week, Sermon Notes are provided to help us prepare for upcoming sermons.  Feel free to use these Sermon Notes in your personal study or in a group!

A Sinner’s Party

As we begin a series on the Gospel of Mark, we read that religious leaders began to critique Jesus very early in his ministry.

Silenced Voices

In a difficult text about a Canaanite woman, the disciples and even Jesus appear to refuse to help someone in need. But when she speaks boldly in her defense, Jesus responds…

Confess

Concluding this Worship series, we land on the third vow to (in part) confess Jesus as our Savior. In many ways, this may be the crux of our Baptismal and Membership vows.

Accept

Our tradition suggests that God empowers us all. This week’s message invites us to accept the gifts that God gives – not for ourselves, but to work toward God’s kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.

Renounce

We begin a new series on our Baptism and membership vows. In this first vow, we commit to renounce, we commit to reject, we commit to repent.

We Believe: The Holy Spirit

We conclude our series on The Apostle’s Creed exploring The Holy Spirit. Generally, we might celebrate Pentecost thinking about the Gifts of the Spirit, but Paul also reminds us of the Fruits of the Spirit. Sometimes we are able to see these in unexpected places.

We Believe: The Forgiveness of Sins

This Sunday’s message explores a belief in the forgiveness of sins. In doing so, we must understand both sin and forgiveness and how God’s grace is present in both.

We Believe: The Church

Continuing through the Apostles’ Creed, we explore what it means to be the church. It’s not just about showing up in worship every once in a while…

We Believe: Life Everlasting

This week’s focus is connected to the Easter story and resurrection. The mention of resurrection in the Apostles’ Creed is brief, so what impact does it have on our faith today?

We Believe: Jesus

This week’s focus is the major portion of the creed, focusing on Jesus. Quite a few theological statements are claimed in this central section of the creed. This week we will explore what The Apostles’ Creed claims about Jesus and how these central claims form our faith.
