On August 28th, PB UMC held its annual “Fun-in-the-Sun” beach party in Mission Bay, and it was definitely fun in the sun: lots of fun and lots of sun! The sun was bright and shining, and there was a really nice breeze that kept approximately 100 attendees from getting too hot.
The food was amazingly good. Chef DK Catering supplied tasty sliders made from different kinds of meat and a varie- ty of cheeses and sauces. Church members supplied some outstanding side dishes and desserts. Among the countless sides, there was some delicious water melon, along with some excellent potato salads.
There were amazing desserts, including homemade cookies, cupcakes, and cakes–including a marvelous multi-layered multi-colored cake. There were some wonderful S’more Brownies. I personally had seconds (and even thirds) of each course. I know I wasn’t the only one who did.
There were fun things to do besides eat. The kids, and some of us who feel like kids, really enjoyed the bounce house. Kids and adults played volley ball. Bongos was another fun game enjoyed, especially by a father and son pair who laughed at themselves and each other while playing. A couple of guys played a game that was similar to ping pong, only there was no table.
A bunch of us left with unusually beautiful faces after getting ours painted by some creative artists.
Craig R. and his team did an outstanding job organizing this event. Some of the volunteers were on-site as early as 5:50 am and stayed as late as 5:30 pm. Each year gets better. I’m already looking forward to more fun in the sun next year. Thanks to the entire team!
