Good Friday marks the day when hate and fear did its worst…the day of Jesus’ crucifixion. On this day of grief and sorrow, we will gather with one another, in God’s care, to remember Jesus’ death on a cross.
Pacific Beach UMC and La Jolla UMC will gather for a Tenebrae Service at 6:30 PM at Pacific Beach UMC on Good Friday. During the Tenebrae service, the account of Jesus’ suffering and death will be read while lights are gradually extinguished. Let us lean into God and one another this Good Friday. You can also join us via livestream.
Elusive One, where do you hide when grief and pain shroud us in darkness and mist? Where do you go when all hope fades in the dying of the light? How can we bear the excruciating emptiness of your absence. Your ways are beyond us, mysterous One, cloaking us like a funeral shroud. Be with us when all lights go out. Be near us, even when we deny and betray you. Amen.
