Today’s scripture passage from Luke is a tough one! Many of us are familiar with Jesus’ “sermon on the mount” from Matthew. These verses from Luke are similar in many ways, but altogether different in others. They contain an equal measure of grace and judgment as they walk us through a series of “blessings and woes” as Jesus describes God and God’s intention for the world. These verses challenge our mainstream understanding of the word “blessed” and invite us to expand our thinking, seeing and understanding beyond “me” to embrace a divine sense of “we.” Join us on Sunday as we examine this important passage and its implication for our lives.
