This is the first Sunday in Lent and we begin our sermon series, “Seeking: Honest Questions For Deeper Faith.” As we enter into this holy season, we seek all kinds of different things. We seek God, the one who created us and loves us. We seek wellness and meaning for our lives and the lives of those we know and love. We seek the reign of God’s peace and justice in our community and throughout the world. Questions are natural and abundant for those who are seeking and rather than shy away from our questions, we will welcome and embrace them this Lent, gleaning wisdom and inspiration from biblical ancestors, fellow seekers, who have gone before us. This week we begin with the story of Eve in the Garden and Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness. These accounts remind us of something essential…that seeking begins with listening.
Scripture: Genesis 2:15-17, 3:1-7; Matthew 4:1-11
