We are in the midst of a series of parables in Matthew that invite us to reflect on the Kin-dom of God as a vineyard. Several weeks ago we contemplated God’s desire to invite more and more folks to be a part of the vineyard. This week’s parable invites us back to the setting of the vineyard in what might be one of Jesus’ most challenging parables. It is full of violence, so much so that we may want to reject it altogether. But what does this parable have to say to us? What was the context in which it was told and can it help us grow in our understanding of what it means to be residents in God’s vineyard?
