During the month of May, we are hanging out in the book of Acts or “The Acts of the Apostles,” exploring the early days and development of the church. This week we share two scripture readings in worship. In the first, Paul receives a vision that results in the expansion of the early church into Europe. We meet the first European convert, Lydia, a businesswoman who was “a dealer in purple cloth.” In the second reading from the Book of Revelation, we experience the glorious vision of The New Jerusalem, the fulfillment of God’s promises.
Together, these passages invite us to consider the power of visions. Are they just a thing of the past or do we experience them in our here and now? What difference did they make to our biblical ancestors who received them long ago and what difference might they make in our lives today? Join us on Sunday as we explore these passages that remind us of the divine vision that guides, encourages and inspires us.
