Today is the fourth and final Sunday in Advent. It’s a day when we light the candle of Love and prepare for Love Incarnate to enter into our lives and world once again through the baby in the manger.
We spend time in Luke’s Gospel with the encounter between the angel Gabriel and Mary. Called the “annunciation,” this is when Gabriel, directed by God, tells Mary that she will bear a child and that this child will be God’s Holy One. Mary not only receives this remarkable message from Gabriel but she consents to this partnership, offering herself as a “servant of the Lord.”
Today, we’ll ponder how God works in ways that are often contrary to what we expect and to what we even believe is possible!
Scripture passages: Luke 1:26-38
