Our Gospel reading today appears strange and archaic at first blush. It’s the account of “Legion,” a man occupied by many demons. We explore this fascinating text, digging in a little deeper to find ways that this passage intersects with our lives and points us toward the healing, restorative power of Jesus in the most fractured and divided places of our lives and our communities.
This Sunday we celebrate Father’s Day, giving thanks and praying for the dads among us and remembering all those who have fathered us well over the course of our lives. We also recognize Juneteenth, also called “Emancipation Day” or “Freedom Day,” symbolically marking the end of slavery in the United States.
Scripture passage: Luke 8:26-39
